Paul Rudd has officially signed on to play the title role in Marvel’s upcoming Ant-Man film.
After weeks of speculation, studio head Kevin Feige confirmed the news in a statement saying, “When Edgar Wright came to us with the idea of Paul Rudd, we felt a huge sense of relief because the first step in creating any Marvel Studios film is finding the right star. We knew early on that we had found the right person in Paul. When he not only agreed to do it but became as enthusiastic as any actor we’d ever met with about doing the work, we knew we’d found the right guy. We couldn’t be more excited for our audiences to see what he’s going to do to bring Ant-Man to life.”
The superhero film follows the story of biophysicist Henry Pym, who discovers a size-altering substance known as ‘Pym Particles’, which he uses to shrink himself down to help solve mysteries and fight crime.
While there is no official word yet on who will play his love interest in the film, Paul’s friend Rashida Jones is reportedly being eyed for the role of Janet van Dyne, aka The Wasp and Henry Pym’s wife.
Edgar Wright will direct Ant-Man, which will be the first film in Marvel’s “Phase 3″ series after “Phase 2” concludes with The Avengers: Age of Ultron in May 2015. Catch Ant-Man in theaters on July 2015.
