Stephen Colbert is set to take over The Late Show after longtime host David Letterman steps down next year.
CBS released a statement confirming the news saying,
“Stephen Colbert is one of the most inventive and respected forces on television. David Letterman’s legacy and accomplishments are an incredible source of pride for all of us here, and today’s announcement speaks to our commitment of upholding what he established for CBS in late night.”
Colbert added, “Simply being a guest on David Letterman’s show has been a highlight of my career. I never dreamed that I would follow in his footsteps, though everyone in late night follows Dave’s lead. I’m thrilled and grateful that CBS chose me. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go grind a gap in my front teeth.”
No word yet on what will happen to the timeslot currently taken up by his show, The Colbert Report, on Comedy Central. Just last week, Letterman announced that he would be retiring in 2015 after more than 20 years hosting the late-night show.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin have called it quits after 11 years of marriage. The pair announced their decision to separate on the actress’ lifestyle website Goop, saying:
"It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate. We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate. We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been. We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time. We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and coparent, we will be able to continue in the same manner."
